Grass in German Tram Tracks

We were thrilled to see that tram tracks in Barcelona had been detailed with grass. Come to find out, they’re not the only ones: various trams in Germany and Strasbourg are doing it, too. This one’s in Düsseldorf. Grassy tracks remind us a bit of the High Line in New York, which is turning old rails into new green space—the difference is that the Europeans have realized that a functional railway can coexist with the green.
