Zap! Smart Cars for the U.S.
by TreeHugger on 10.25.04

The Smart cars are coming! The Smart cars are coming! These hyper-efficient little vehicles have been zipping through the cobbled streets of the Old World for years now, and Zap! has finally developed one that meets U.S. standards. The 60 mpg, six-speed vehicles have three cylinders and are adorably cute, but it’s hard to imagine Americans using them on anything...
but a golf course or in a shopping mall, which in fact, brings up a scary thought: Would a car this small simply add to our reliance on gas-powered vehicles, encouraging us to use cars where we don’t already? Really, they’re not much bigger than kids’ toy cars. Furthermore, despite Zap’s insistence that the Smart car meets rigorous safety standards, we can’t imagine them sharing the sharing the highways with the Hummer 3. Yikes. Still, we like moxie. $12,000-20,000 ::Zap Thanks ::Jalopnik!

my dad visited family in italy 3 years ago. he took a picture next to a smart car because he thought i would like it! he was right! i have wanted a smert for so long! im young, i dont need all the space of a larger car, so this is absolutly perfect!!! cant wait to get one!
You said you couldn't imagine this sharing the highways with the Hummer 3. What's the difference in that and the Hummer 3 sharing the highways with a tractor trailer truck?
smartUSA is the official distributor of the smart car, which will arrive here in 2008. they are actually really safe! visit the website to learn more
smart car
I just saw one in San Diego the other day. It sure is small but looks like its made for inner city driving.
What's the difference from driving a Smart and a motorcycle on the highway or next to a hummer. A motorcycle would be worse to drive in my book.
