Rachel Sleight Paper Wedding Dress

Sleight-wedding-dress.jpgRachel Sleight designed this paper wedding dress for “Design Mart”, an exhibit recently held at the London Design Museum. Inspired by the beauty of origami, the dress is also environmentally sound—it packs flat for shipping and can be recycled when all used up. Brilliant, since most wedding dresses—elaborate and expensive as they are--are a one-wear deal. It’s a bit farfetched, but we like the concept. ::Metropolis

I had this same idea that came from thinking about recyling and that women will spend thousands on a dress that will hang in the closet and age. A paper dress can get dirty (just prepare the dress to have the top layer torn off when dirty). Maybe it can be re-designed to wear as the coming out dress as well. I just love this idea and am looking for a way to design my own.

What kind of paper is this dress constructed of???????

Isn't it better to have an organic cotton dress? because the paper has to be white an that means using bleach or other earth damaging chemicals.
