Nike+Environment???

Nike shoe.jpgWe've never really been sure if we could trust Nike after the sweatshop incident, but their Reuse-A-Shoe program has us wanting to give them a 2nd chance. It takes used/defective footwear, grinds it all up and makes sporting/playground surfaces out of it. (Find out where you can turn in old kicks, here.) They've also been incorporating decent amounts of organic cotton into their products, are beginning to reduce GHG, and swear they're aiming for zero waste and 100% recoverability. Is any step a step in the right direction, or is Nike just hopping on the green, PC bandwagon in order to ensure the business of Gen Y and the Echo Boomers for years to come? Hmm....conudrum which I have thought about myself.
Although Nike is doing great on materilas - they even have a show made of recycled materials- I think that sweatshops is unforgiveable. Unless we get phots, and proof that their shoes are being made in a safe environment, I will not buy their shoes.

I totally agree with Eco-chic, there is no way I'd by Nike shoes if they use sweat shop labor.... Even if Steve Nash helped designed them.

What are some cons about how nike make their things?

Even if you don't want to buy Nike shoes, you can still donate your old shoes to Nike Reuse-a-Shoe program.

Nike and LA84 have joined forces to reduce its ecological footprint. A tremendous stride for both Nike and LA84. Check out the video: http://indigoproject.squarespace.com/nike-reuse-a-shoe-and-la84-fou/
