Sneak Peak: Clever idea! a backpack with solar panels embedded into the outside of the bag, designed to charge portable electronics.
More an electronic bag, than just a solar charger. The battery pack (Li Ion = rechargeable and recyclable) can also be recharged by plugging it into your wall or car. This is a true mobile power source, so it's just as useful in the city as off the grid.
Only coming mid November, but we got to test a prototype (full disclosure: this is a friend of TreeHugger's). It charged our phones etc. as promised, but most surprising was the number of people that stopped to ask about it. It'll charge an iPod but won't charge a laptop.

I am leaving on 24th August 2005 for a year travelling on the pan-am highway. I am very interested in the solar panel backpack, but as you understand cannot wait for November 2005 when it comes out on sale. Any suggestions on how i can get my hands on one.

I love this! I am planning a once in a lifetime trip around the world, and wanna go travelling with it, but given the heightened security alerts at each airport, and having a darker complexion, I wouldnt last 20 seconds!
Could you make it so it doesn't quite look so weapon like!
Yo. I like this back pack. I'm from Brazil and traveling around Europe. I just charged up my phone and was browsing the net with it so I thought I'd post a message since I've got nothing better to do now, since I'm riding the tube in London.
Yo! Yo! I don't believe it! A British copper just tried to steal my backpack! Brazil is bad, but London is worse! Yo! Yo! Now 5 coppers are chasing me, all trying to steal my backpack! One of them has a gun! He looks like those stormtrooper guys in the movies.....Ouch, that hurts!
