Gourd Speakers!

Absolutely Gourdeous! Sorry, couldn't resist. These babies are made from North Carolina gourds (after 6-12 months drying time). Mount'em from the ceiling or go bookshelf style. Finished with a natural butcher's wax. Designed by artist David Ellis. $1,200 USD/pair (hopefully with some volume sales, this can come down).

The Speakers are great.....but at $1200US per pair are they really solving or addressing the issue of sustainability. Granted they have been designed by an artist but if you pay a premium surely the design misses the mark. The future lies with low cost roll out. The IKEA way.....get things in homes and the rest will become easy. Lets not get too caught up in trhe design that products become one offs....As a designer seduction is the key.....but this can be achieved simply. These designs have a certain generic appeal.
