Ok, so this isn't a true green item. But, kudo's to my favorite eco-celeb, Leonardo DiCaprio for his consistent give-back spirit. Leo and Kate Winslet returned to their Titanic roots to help out the ship's one remaining survivor. The actors have lent their support to pay for 97-year-old Millvina Dean's nursing home care. Millvina was only 2 months old when the ship sank, and lost her father. To help keep Millvina's living situation afloat, Kate and Leo both gave her $10,000 dollars. Poor Millvina has had to resort to selling her autograph to pay her bills. Jennifer Aniston often gets mocked by the eco-crowd for her light green pledge to make a difference by taking three-minute showers, which include a teeth-brushing. Now, she's getting serious and stepping up her green game by spending $15 million on an eco-makeover for her Beverly Hills mansion. As part of her green renovations, she will add solar panels, a reflective metal roof to conserve energy - plus her garden will include drought-resistant plants. The cash-heavy star reveals, "When you become aware of all the things you do, and all the effects those things have, you want to make small changes." Country cutie Taylor Swift has earned major accolades as both a singer and a style icon. Now, she's opening up her closet and recycling the one gown her fans haven't seen her wear; her prom dress. Taylor donated her Jessica McClintock gown to Donate My Dress ; which launched a national drive to help girls find their dream dress. "I chose to give away this prom dress because I wore it once and loved it! To keep it around, hanging there all by itself and lonely in the closet, never to be worn again seemed a little pointless. I want another girl somewhere to feel good in it and have a great prom night because of this dress," said Taylor. Seems when the maternal instinct kicks in, even the most gold-minded star's heart turns green. Yes, stars can afford to buy the best eco-everything--but let's not be haters. Onscreen, the Gossip Girl gang are scheming, back-stabbing high-schoolers. Not your most likable crew. In real life, the too-pretty-for-words cast are actually very much into the eco-lifestyle. Besides, fighting for a greener production set, the actors are all part of the CW network's green your world campaign. The CW's website devotes an entire section to green living/tips. Yes, the tips are pretty basic, like only run a full dishwasher to insulate your water heater, but every little bit helps to ensure a greener future. We all know George Clooney is a hot commodity. But, PETA's taken his star power to a new dimension. The animal rights group received George's sweaty gym towel to auction off for charity. But, the brainiacs over at PETA hoped to use his sweat to create Clooney tofu that will "spare animals from being killed for the table." Yup, you read it right - "Clooney-flavored Tofu". Apparently, the techonology exists to take sweat and turn it into bean curd. Or, as PETA tagged it CloFu. "We believe CloFu would be delicious on its own or served over rice with a light soy sauce and sauteed collards," advises PETA. Clooney's response: "As a mammal, I'm offended."

... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Madonna's Worst Dressed, Jennifer Aniston's Obnoxious Style Costs, and More

Poor Madame "M"! Madonna just can't seem to catch a break. The eco-minded blast her massive carbon footprint. Her ex-husband, Guy Richie, refers to her publicly as "It." Now, PETA singles her out as their worst dressed celebrity of 2009. The animal rights activists claim she is the biggest fur offender - by a mile. "We know she's on the prowl for a young cub, but someone needs to tell Madge that wearing fur doesn't make you a cougar," snipes PETA. Being the ultimate hipster and woman of class, the 50-year old Madonna dates a 22-year old male model. Other fur-flaunting celebs making Peta's most-hated list are the Olsen twins and Kayne West. The Gossip Girl hunk wants your jeans! Well sort of, the green-hearted actor knows a gently worn pair of jeans can be recycled for a good cause. The actor teamed up with Do Something and Aeropostale clothing shop to launch the second annual teens for jeans campaign. It's a national campaign to collect jeans for homeless teens. Drop off a pair of your old (but still wearable) jeans at any Aeropostale by March 1st and they'll get donated to to a local homeless shelter or charity. Celebs are always hungry for a good pound-dropping diet. The nasty (not to mention unhealthy) Master Cleanse was last years go-to fix. This year stars are going green to get lean and mean. Ellen De Generes and Alanis Morrissette credit their recent weight loss to their newly adopted vegan lifestyle. De Generes and wife, Portia De Rossi both went meat and dairy-free late last year and De Rossi says it's already paying off, adding, "The benefit of it is weight loss. For her more than me. Her body responded to it very well." According to OK magazine, Alanis dropped 20 pounds and feels hi-energy after switching to a vegan diet. "I have no more aches and pains, and my allergies are gone too," reveals Alanis.... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt: Who's the More Timely Eco-Hunk? Leonardo DiCaprio lost the Golden Globe, but he's always a winner on the green activist front. The eco-champ has signed on to be the celebrity face of watchmaker TAG Heuer. Replacing fellow eco-hunk Brad Pitt. But, Leo isn't pocketing a cent of his multi-million three-year deal; instead, all the money earned is going to support major environmental initiatives. "Tag and I will be making donations to some of most influential and effective environmental organizations around. These organizations are doing important work to ensure our planet's resources for future generations," states Leo.

Madonna urged us all to save our planet at Live Earth. But, obviously her claim to care doesn't apply to her own material needs: There's not much eco-friendly noise on Madonna's "Sticky and Sweet" tour. Her crew released the goods needed for her 45-day world tour on the singer's website. Among the items: 3,500 pieces of clothing, 120 powder puffs, 100 pairs of kneepads, 12 traveling trampolines, 200 makeup sponges, 69 guitars...amd 4 YSL lipsticks. This new daddy seems to pride himself on his crunchy, laid-back parenting style. In an interview with CNN, he says he was inspired to do this after visiting Australia and seeing a tree that had grown with the placenta of a tribe of Abroriginals. According to the Huffington Post, the actor is third in line to receive a grid-independent solar hydrogen system from Mike Strizki, the man who created the first solar- hydrogen house in the United States.
