Discovery's Planet Green/TreeHugger seeks an intern to collaborate on a high-impact innovative environmental initiative. Intern will perform research (primarily online) related to climate change initiatives, and will assist with the development of a presentation addressing questions of how individuals can most effectively reduce their carbon footprint. This presentation will be given on a regular basis by multiple Discovery team members, and will represent the first step in a significant, broader initiative. ... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Double the Pleasure: Sex Toys Added to Planet Green Sex Guide

It's a little steamy over at Planet Green, where we've updated our sex guide, How to Go Green: Sex, to include six green vibrators and dildos. Our children will inherit a world profoundly changed by the combination of technology and humanity that is social media. They'll take for granted that their voices can be heard and that a social movement can be launched from their laptop. They'll take for granted that they are connected and interconnected with hundreds of millions of people at any given moment. And they'll take for granted that a black man is or was President of the United States.

TreeHugger loves having voices from all over the globe, especially on big green days like Earth Day, when a bunch of us can chime in and give perspectives from all over the planet. We gathered up a few from earlier this week -- Earth Day and the Green Apple Festival included -- so we could see how we all spent the day designated for Momma Earth. From The Flaming Lips in Washington D.C. to an electric tractor in Oregon, here are some of Team TreeHugger's experiences on Earth Day.

Considering that pretty much everything that TreeHugger covers could be written about from the standpoint of Business or Politics, the hardest part about narrowing down who should be given a Best of Green title was really determining what and whom not to include. There really are so many people whose work deserves to be recognized that we had to make some hard decisions on what sort of businesses, activities, political groups, we wanted to single out. With that in mind, here's a cross section of the sort of people, businesses and ideas which we thought deserved to be called the Best of Green.

The Best of Green: Business & Politics
All of the individual efforts that TreeHugger encourages people to do to green their lives, buy more eco-friendly products, reduce their carbon footprint and eco-footprint as a whole will only take us so far on the path of creating a truly green and sustainable future. The other piece of the puzzle is changing the structure of of society to place the environment at the head of every decision. That's where the larger actions of business and politicians really come into play.

Though the road towards a fair and just, ecologically sustainable future is long, the winners in each of the Best of Green categories you're about to view all are leading the way in their particular sphere.

Without further a-do here are TreeHugger's picks for the Best of Green for Business & Politics:

The Best of Green: Food & Health

From the breakfast we eat in the morning, to the restaurants where we dine in the evening, few things have a more regular impact on our lives than food. And, food, along with myriad other environmental factors, has a big influence on our general health and wellbeing. With that in mind, it's great that we were able to hand out over 25 Best of Green Awards to those doing the best green work in restaurants, breweries and wineries, food writing, green food resources, and more. Be sure to check in with the winners of the other seven categories, and tell us why you agree or disagree with the choices in the TreeHugger Forums.

Green food and good health go hand in hand. So while the best food choices and options vary greatly by locale, the best-practices and principles that apply to good food and good remain the same no matter where you live. To acknowledge this, we've singled out nearly 20 honorees green-wild enough to earn a Best of Green Award in the category of Travel + Nature. Don't agree with our picks? Vent in the Forums. And check back for the winners in our other six categories, which will be launched throughout the week. Hey, outdoor-oriented nonprofits, want $50,000? Of course you do. To earn it, you can enter the Greater Outdoors Project, presented by Redwood Creek wines and Planet Green. School teachers, listen up! This is a call for help. You are one of the first lines of defense in the environmental movement. In a few short years, the upcoming generation will decide the fate of this planet. And when it comes to how to teach children science, math, and geography, you're the best at it. The interdisciplinary skills they learn today will be the planet-saving skills they enlist tomorrow. Now, we know that's a lot to bear on your shoulders, so we've put together a guide that will help you in the classroom -- and outside it, too.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to help children develop a connection to the environment, through both learning and experience. We know that most of you went back-to-school in September, but we have it on good intelligence that some teachers may have spent their summers traveling and golfing, rather than working out lesson plans.
