You know that feeling when you walk into the paper product aisle at the market and you're overwhelmed with choice? Being a green consumer, you naturally want to make a green choice, but how? And, maybe more importantly, why? Need help? Well, viola! Greenpeace has released its Recycled Tissue and Toilet Paper Guide, a credit card-sized shopping guide to help consumers find the greenest household paper products.... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Dr. James Hansen Calls On Americans To Join Him At The Largest Protest On Global Warming In U.S. History

A Call to Action on Global Warming from Dr. James Hansen from Greenpeace USA on Vimeo.

When you're buying a new electronics products there's lots to consider. A few years ago there was practically zero information if you wanted to make an environmentally sounder choice. The huge problems caused by the dumping of old electronics in places like Ghana was only just starting to be recognized. Fast forward to 2009 and there's a plethora of competing claims made by companies and much more awareness that simply dumping your old gear is a bad idea.... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Greenpeace Says Some Food Retailers Are Acting "Fishy"

Let's face it, our country is addicted to oil. Even George W. Bush, a former oil peddler, has admitted this addiction. And like any sickness, our addiction to oil has serious consequences: higher temperatures, melting glaciers, more violent storms and $4 a gallon gasoline to name just a few.

Greenpeace has ships, helicopters, a solar-paneled vehicle, and now? Our very own balloon. That's right, a giant hot-air balloon shaped like the Earth. There's only one problem. Our hot-air balloon doesn't have a name yet. And just like any other Greenpeace vessel, our balloon needs a good name. In typical Greenpeace fashion, we crashed this past weekend's Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta with our new Earth-shaped hot air balloon.

Greenpeace used the balloon all weekend to deliver a strong message on global warming to participants in New Mexico's most recognized event, the Balloon Fiesta. Our message, which was reinforced by activists on the ground, is that people across the country are aware of how serious global warming is and are taking action to combat it while our leaders have been woefully slow to act. It's high time that Congress did their part by passing science-based legislation to tackle the enormity of the global climate crisis we are facing.... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Greenpeace and Ben & Jerry's Make Climate-Friendly Ice Cream Cooler

Some politicians consistently say that offshore oil drilling is safe and that drill rigs have withstood Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike without any significant damage or oil spills. The facts, as they often do, tell a very different story. On September 16, the oil drilling company Rowan announced one of its drill rig was missing, and that it had likely capsized and sunk due to Hurricane Ike. ... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Exposed: Photos Show Kimberly-Clark Gets Trees From Ancient Forests

New photos released today reveal a massive stockpile of old-growth logs from the Boreal forest destined to be made into Kleenex and toilet paper for tissue giant Kimberly-Clark. As recently as August 30th, Kimberly-Clark has claimed that "much of [the] fiber from the Canadian Boreal forest comes to K-C in the form of wood pulp produced from sawdust and chips - or leftovers - of the lumber production process."

When President Bush said that we're addicted to oil should he have included coal as a vice on par with the "black gold?" Yep. After all, we do get roughly half our electricity from coal. But does the coal industry have their own Joe Camel to help us get even more hooked? Not yet, but they do have the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE), an organization as good at spin as Philip Morris--and as well-financed. Last week, Greenpeace launched the "Quit Coal, Save the Climate" campaign to draw attention to the dangers of burning coal and to the PR machine trying to keep us from stopping our dependence on it.... Read the full story on TreeHugger

TreeHugger Welcomes Daniel Kessler!

Daniel Kessler is a Senior Press Officer for Greenpeace, the leading independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful direct action and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and to promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.
