The Perfect Bed Has Multiple Layers of Eco-Friendly Materials and is Made in Greece (Video)
Recently I had the pleasure to test-sleep a multiple-layered, 100% natural bed from COCO-MAT which left me flabbergasted that a bed can be so comfortable. On my travels I encountered comfy as well as terrible beds but this takes mattresses to a different level. Literally, because for this greek company the perfect bed is made up of at least 4 layers, all made from natural materials from renewable sources, such as coco fibre, natural rubber, wool, cotton, sea grass, horsehair, silk, linen, wood and goose down.
These are definitely not space saving beds but are designed to please both the human body and the planet. COCO-MAT explains:
We are committed to manufacturing the best beds in the world in the most sustainable way possible. COCO-MAT beds consist of multiple layers of natural materials, providing optimal, elastic support to the human body, without the use of metal springs.
The company has been manufacturing products and furniture in Greece since 1989 and has recently given workers who cycle to work a pay-rise. Although the beds are quite bulky, you can have them delivered to you by bicycle if you live in New York, Amsterdam or Barcelona. Of course from Greece to those cities the beds are shipped.
Something else I like about the company is that they invite their clients for a night to a hotel with their beds so that they can try out the bed before buying it. “When you buy a car you can drive it first” says David Lanzas form their Barcelona store, “so why not try a bed before spending a few thousand euros and then sleeping on it for a third of the rest of your life”. What won me over was the super-soft topper, a luxurious extra layer filled with down that makes for an extra smooth lie down.
