Why Cities Work: There Are Things to Do

For all my griping, there are things that I love about Toronto. In Nathan Phillips Square, the forecourt of City Hall, where you are not allowed to breathe without a permit, hundreds of kids go at it with pillows. Liablility? Broken necks? Battery chicken feathers? Cleanup costs? There are so many reasons why this should be wrong and yet so many people are having such a good time doing such a simple thing. I love it.
We don't need Wiis and Playstations and Second Life sucking watts to have a good time, we need enthusiasm, intelligence and urbanity to make places where people can get together and have fun. As always, congratulations to Lori and Kevin at ::Newmindspace
