Taking back the Streets: Its Called Roadwitching

When we showed the instant two-hour park in San Francisco, we did not realize that it was part of a worldwide pheonomenon known as Roadwitching, "A series of creative experiments in repurposing roads as enjoyable public living spaces rather than motor traffic conduits." The original Roadwitches occupied entire streets; The San Francisco parking space occupation and this lamentable Toronto effort (yes, they put money in a meter, built a pile of snow and put traffic cones around it) make the point less dramatically but make it nonetheless: Streets are for everyone, not just cars. ::Roadwitch Project via ::Spacingwire
