Earthworms basically do three things with their time: eat, poop and have sex. As a result, earthworms are excellent for composting. This kind of composting, known as vermicomposting, is an effective way of reducing landfill waste and generating high-quality soil amendments. And since an earthworm can produce its own weight in poop (called castings) every day, that means earthworms are very effective at breaking down food waste and turning it into compost.
