From the launch of its "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign in 1991, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has never shied away from using naked--or nearly naked--women to draw attention to its animal rights activities. But do lingerie, lettuce bikinis, and nude subway riding really send the most effective message? Does PETA fight for animal rights at the expense of women's rights? Bloggers, journalists, feminists and vegetarians come down on all sides of the issues. In this slideshow, we take a look at some of PETA's most sexed-up ads and discuss whether the means justify the ends.
