Is It Getting Harder to Hate Wal-Mart?

Three years ago, our headline read It's Getting Harder to Hate Wal-Mart because of their green initiatives, and received 40 comments that were pretty evenly divided, the anti-Wal-Mart consensus being that "this is nothing more then a trend bandwagon that Wal-Mart is jumping on." We concluded that "we would wait and see."

Three years later, they are still at it when many others have dropped off. (remember "Beyond Petroleum?") They are going to "transform retailing by requiring manufacturers of consumer products to dig deep into their supply chains, [and] measure their environmental impact." We once again conclude "We'll be watching." Sounds like we don't give their statements the same credibility as, say, we do to Yvon Chouinard.
