These days, when we hear "Tesla" we might first think of electric cars, but the Californian company's namesake also deserves our attention. Well known among scientists, engineers, and geeks of all kinds (I say that in the most positive way), uber-inventor Nikola Tesla is still overlooked by too many people, and that's too bad because his contributions to our civilization were immense.

He was born on July 10th, 1856, so today would be his 157th birthday, a good opportunity to revisit his legacy. For those who want to learn more about this amazing man:

The Tesla Memorial Society has a good biography.

The website Tesla Universe has great stuff too, including Tesla's patents, books about him, quotes by the man, and more.

Wikipedia also has a very complete page about Tesla, including a list of patents (remember, quantity isn't everything -- the quality of inventions is what matters, and Tesla is second to none there).

PBS has a lot of info about Tesla's life and inventions: Nikola Tesla - Life and Legacy.
