They have such fun in Minnesota; they elect comedians like Michele Bachmann and Al Franken; they build Ice monuments honoring socialist dictators and best of all, they know how to enjoy winter.

Out on Medicine Lake, they run the Art Shanty Project,

A six-week exhibition of performance, architecture, science, art, video, literature, survivalism and karaoke, ASP is part sculpture park, part artist residency and part social experiment, inspired by traditional ice fishing houses that dot the state’s lakes in winter.

They even build theaters. What a great idea: small spaces that let you enjoy getting out on the ice without having to sit there freezing your butt pretending to fish. See more pictures at Art Shanty Projects
