After a lifetime of KO'ing opponents in the boxing ring, heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield has a bigger target in mind: he's partnered with Global NES-Georgia, an alternative energy company, to set up a 40-acre solar farm on his Atlanta property--which will put out an estimated 645 million KWh of solar power every year. "The failing state of our planet may be the toughest competitor that I have ever taken on," Ecorazzi quotes the fighter as saying in a statement, "but I am disciplined, focused, and ready for the fight." In addition to the solar farm, an acre of property will be set aside for foodies in the neighborhood: it's scheduled to become a community organic garden. (Via Ecorazzi)

The Huffington Post reprinted an email that the rapper and film producer sent to his fans that describes his most recent trip to India, where he met with the Dali Lama and took some recovery advice from local doctors: "i'm feeling healthy, strong, and hopeful that i've beaten this thing, but of course time will tell. i'm taking tibetan medicine and at the recommendation of the tibetan doctors i've been eating a vegan/organic diet, which surprisingly enough was harder to do in india than it is now that i'm back home. here i can just shop for the right food and cook...a lot easier than depending on restaurants." Hollywood animal lovers--including Alicia Silverstone, Kristen Bell, Ed Begley, Jr., Bill Maher, Ginnifer Goodwin, James Cromwell, and Bob Barker--are throwing their weight behind a California bill that would prohibit the dairy industry from cutting off the tails of cows, a process called tail docking, which is often done without painkillers. All those celebs--and others--signed a letter on behalf of Farm Sanctuary to encourage Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign the bill; Farm Sanctuary president Gene Baur says "With last November's landslide passage of Prop 2, banning the three cruelest farm animal confinement systems in the state, Californians made it clear they will no longer tolerate cruel practices on factory farms."
