Climate Scientists Unveil Hardcore Rap Video (NSFW. Really.)

I know we're always urging climate scientists to be better communicators -- but I don't think this is quite what most of us had in mind. Yes, below the fold is a video of actual climate scientists doing their best gangsta rap impression in a surprisingly well-produced clip. It's a little cringe-inducing, weirdly entertaining, and ultimately, kind of awesome. They let the expletives fly, and there are sexual innuendos abound (!), so it's not exactly safe for work. Watch:
Jess Zimmerman at Grist responds: "Is that global warming, or am I just flushing in embarrassment? This awful/awesome rap about anthropogenic climate change lets actual climate scientists take the stage for once -- and then proceed to make fools of themselves."
And I hear that -- but I think this thing actually kind of works. It's so over-the-top, the rapping so is bad, these guys know it's going to be embarrassing -- and then they take it to the next level. It sort of reminds me of Natalie Portman's gangsta rap on SNL in that way.
And there are some pretty funny lines:
Heatwaves bigger badder storms
The Green house effect is just a theory sucker
Yeah so is gravity float away muther f**cker
Whether you find this thing funny or incredibly awkward (or, like me, both) -- kudos for the climate scientists for having the stones to do it at all. The clip will evidently premiere on an Australian TV Show, Hungry Beast, later this week.
