Candy and Costumes for a Sweet and Spooky Green Halloween (Slideshow)

Calling Halloween an environmental terror might be going a bit far, but the impact of those one-night-only costumes, pounds of candy (about 24 per person in 2007), and plastic pumpkin candy totes is undeniably scary.

Instead, fill your treat bowl with Fair Trade chocolate, organic peanut butter cups, and gluten-free lollipops; dress your kids in sturdy (and safe) costumes that will become favorite hand-me-downs; and trade those plastic containers for reusable tote bags.
