Better Sex Better for the Environment - This Swede Says So
Starting with the humorous (and horrifying) statistic that Swedes on average remodel their kitchens every four years (got to be IKEA's fault), relationship expert Eva Sanner says better sex would help save the environment. TreeHugger thinks so, too. It's all about consumption, Sanner says. If we turn off the TV with the ads making us think we never have enough, and tune into the (well, hopefully) person sitting right next to us, we'll feel sexy and fulfilled. Seriously? "Gemensama sexualitet" - which means sex we both likeSanner is a relationship expert, not an eco expert, but what she says makes some sense. Turning off the TV, she notes, will give us time to have good meals, good talks, and hopefully, more good sex (though Sanner says we should also have so-so lazy sex, just to keep up the habit) INSTEAD of watching other people do this stuff on the tube. We've got a great list of 50 Ways to Please Your Lover (and greenly!).
Consume less, get consumed with passion insteadOf course, as you might have known, while Sanner is a more-sex advocate, she also believes that most good sex is a result of good relationships...and lots of the "c" word (nope, not that "c" word) - she means communication. If we also become more aware of our real needs, Sanner says, we'll learn how to get them met, and we'll stop consuming so much in the areas of clothing, furniture, and stuff, stuff, stuff. But what about teenagers?
Letting go of the need to upgradeSanner says there's currently a cult of upgrading, right down to upgrading your partner if he/she gets too shopworn. But unfortunately, if love won't keep us together, upgrading won't make us happy. It's easy to become a "love addict" but sooner or later the intimacy question will pop up, she says. What Sanner is really saying is that finding inner happiness will make us less acquisitive, and more sustainable.
