A Second Life for Urban Christmas Trees
We've tipped you off before on how to pick a green Christmas Tree. In addition to the options of planting it in the back yard, sinking it, or composting it, you can donate your tree to your city so that it can be planted in an urban neighborhood that could use some greenery and shade. In San Francisco, the city-funded SF Environment and nonprofit Friends of the Urban Forest have created the Dreaming of a Green Christmas program. Three different city-friendly species of tree were available for $90, a fee that included delivery and pick-up for planting. The program proved so popular that the trees are all spoken for.
