7 Ways Leonardo DiCaprio Proves Green is Sexy

Though the Nickelodeon audience and the DiCaprio audience don't always line up (SpongeBob SquarePants vs. Revolutionary Road or Rugrats vs. The Departed, anyone?), DiCaprio became the first recipient of the network's "Big Green Help Award" at the Kids' Choice Awards this May. "Mother Earth is hurting," DiCaprio said in his acceptance speech, "and she needs a generation of thoughtful, caring, and active kids like all of you to protect her for the future. You can help us win the battle to clean up our air, our water, our land, to protect our forests, our oceans, and our wildlife."

DiCaprio isn't just all talk, either: when it comes to green initiatives, he's willing to throw around some cash. When he was named the new celebrity face of Tag Heuer in January (taking over the role from the equally eco-lovable Brad Pitt), he promised that the millions of dollars the company paid him would skip his bank account and go to environmental charities and organizations instead. Known to spend Mother's Day planting trees instead of at brunch (though since his mom is the president of his Foundation, she surely understood), it's clear he gives his time freely, too.

The work DiCaprio does in public is huge, but he's also pretty green when it comes to his personal life. While he does travel a lot--an unavoidable part of his career--he flies commercial flights instead of private whenever he can, drives an electric Tesla Roadster in his free time, uses energy-efficient appliances, and has solar panels running his home. He's even been seen on the most eco-friendly form of New York City transportation--his bicycle--and owns a condo in the city's LEED Gold rated Riverhouse complex.
