Wave and Tidal Power Could supply 20% of UK Needs

We have read enough Patrick O'Brian sea stories to know that the British Isles are surrounded by rough waters and high tides. A new study by the Carbon Trust calculates that marine energy can replace nuclear power and provide up to 20% of the country's needs. They investigated eight different wave energy technologies, summarized here, some of which have been Treehugger favourites . They also look at tidal stream energy resources, which are more dependable but environmentally more difficult as they can disrupt shoreline ecosystems.
