Today on Planet 100: China Blames Its Negotiator for Copenhagen Failure (Video)
In today's episode of Planet 100, China reprimands its climate negotiator, green media sees a dip in 2009, and bees gain a foothold in New York City.A top Chinese negotiator has been removed from his position as punishment for failure at the COP15 climate talks in Copenhagen. According to reports flooding newspapers in Hong Kong, He Yafei was criticized for failing to ease tensions between China, the United States, and Europe, and for his refusal to work with a plan that allowed Western powers to establish carbon limits for other countries.
Meanwhile, new reports show that, compared to the previous two years, media coverage of the environment was down in 2009. According to Pew Center research, environmental stories accounted for 1.5 percent of all coverage for the year, compared to 1.7 percent in 2007 and 2008.
Finally, New York has taken a small step towards legalizing beekeeping within the city. Bees have been prohibited in the city since Rudy Giuliani added them to a banned species list in 1999.
