Men Set Grassland on Fire Trying To Blow Up Gophers

Two Calgary men wreaked environmental havoc trying to kill gophers with a Rodenator, a device which pumps propane and oxygen into their holes and then blasts them out. Unfortunately the grass is really dry and flammable, and 160 acres, including several outbuildings were completely torched, with a value of C$200,000 (US$197,000 and falling) More

The Tales of Bachmann, Act 1: Only in America: The "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act"

Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann introduced the "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act" to stop the phase-out of incandescent bulbs.

"This is an issue of science over fads and fashions," she told an interviewer, and called any human connection to global warming "voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax." More

Only In America: Billboards Have Rights, Trees Don't.

Evil trees that blocked the view of billboards were chopped down in Osceola, Florida. One Osceola, Florida legislator said "Those billboards are important, they feed lots of families,This is a tourism corridor. Tourism depends on billboards, not on trees." Billboard King Clear Channel backs him up, arguing in favor of chopping down some trees in Osceola County: "The billboards were there first, and the trees started popping up, and they were done so in a way that they would block the view of the billboard," said Craig Swygert of Orlando's Clear Channel office. "It's like, 'Hey, we're going to give you a permit to be in business, but then we're going to take it away after you've already invested all this money.'" More

The Tales of Bachmann, Act 2: On the Secret Green Agenda

Michele Bachmann susses out the green agenda. She claims:

Democrats and environmentalists want to make the United States "the only country that has made it illegal to access its own energy."

"This is their agenda," Bachmann states bluntly. "I know it is hard to believe, it's hard to fathom -- but this is 'mission accomplished' for them," she asserts. "They want Americans to take transit and move to the inner cities. They want Americans to move to the urban core, live in tenements, [and] take light rail to their government jobs. That's their vision for America." More

The Tales of Bachmann, Act 3: Why We Don't Need To Save the Planet

Our favorite Member of Congress from the State of Minnesota with her latest complaint about Nancy Pelosi and the fight against climate change:

""[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she's just trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet -- we didn't need Nancy Pelosi to do that." More

Spirit Airlines Believes in Offshore Drilling And Lets Us Know It

Well you gotta give Spirit Airlines points for chutzpah, although we would love to know where in Florida one can go snorkelling with an oil derrick (their legs and structure attract fish, you know) between you and the beach. More

The Tales of Bachmann, Act 4: Caribou have Coffee Klatches 'Round the Alaska Pipeline

Michele Bachman on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve:

"Green" McMansions Torched in Seattle

This one isn't funny but it is un-TreeHugger; back in March, three "eco-homes" burned to the ground. All of the houses were vacant so nobody was injured; they have been languishing on the market for months. A sign spray-painted onto a sheet was found that according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer "had the initials of the Earth Liberation Front in scraggly red letters, mocked claims that the homes were environmentally friendly: "Built Green? Nope black! McMansions in RCDs r not green"

Some commenters in the Seattle paper suggest that perhaps there were other reasons for the fires: "Expensive homes being torched in a housing recession? Hmmm... How convenient." Other wags on the web note "Only it ain't the Earth Liberation Front, it's the BANK Liberation Front."

The Tales of Bachmann, Act 5: Michele Single-handedly saves day, lowers Lower Gas Prices

I will be almost sorry if Michele Bachmann loses tomorrow [update: she won] she is so entertaining. In this video she takes credit for the fall in oil prices.

"We saw gas at $2.04 today. That was my goal, when I started this year I wanted to get gas below two dollars a gallon and we are almost there..." More
