Is Eco-Terrorism a "Non Existent Threat"?

Having written only yesterday that angry rhetoric can come from greens too—and suggested that we all be mindful of our language lest it incite violence in others—I've just come across a piece by George Monbiot that claims "eco-terrorism is a non existent threat we spend millions policing." The idea, says Monbiot, that environmentalists (as opposed to animal rights activists) are setting out to harm other humans in their defense of the planet has not been backed up by "a single proven instance of a planned attempt in the UK". TreeHugger's parent company has had experiences to the contrary—albeit not in the UK. I'd be interested to know what our readers think...
