We know a few things about honoring the people, organizations, and companies that are at the top of their game when it comes to spreading the green message (see our Best of Green package for details). But we always like to see where our peers stand, too—and tonight The Daily Green offers up its own favorites in categories from Eco-Original to Ground Breaker. And, okay: we were pretty thrilled to see our sister site, Planet Green, receive the Influencer Award for its television programming.Other honorees at the ceremony—emceed by actress Connie Britton at Hearst’s LEED-Gold Certified tower in New York City—include Alicia Silverstone, who received the Eco-Original award for her work as a veganism advocate; Deidre Imus, Green This! Series author; fashion and beauty expert Summer Rayne Oakes; Kitchen Gardens International Founder Roger Doiron; Hollywood Green host Maria Menounos; and Natural Resources Defense Council president Frances Beinecke.
The Daily Green’s readers also had their say, nominating grassroots leaders in their own communities for the Local Hero Award; winner Greg Perry brought environmentalism to his students at Beachwood High School in Ohio by developing the Ultimate Green Classroom and putting on the Green Dream expo with his students. Sponsor eBay chose one of its sellers, Jennifer Canty, for the Green Team Community Award. Through her company, Dyscern, Canty encourages reuse by formatting and reselling electronic equipment, preventing waste.
