Gorbachev's Green Joke: "Bad Case of the Humans"
Stop me if you've heard this one: during his opening remarks at the 10th Annual Sustainable Design Awards last night, Global Green's president Matt Peterson shared a joke that his boss and Global Green's founder, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, had once told him, possibly over a glass of whiskey...
Two planets are passing each other in space, one of them very sick, the other healthy. The healthy one says, 'Hey, you! What happened to you?!'
The sick planet says, 'I got a case of the humans.'
The healthy planet replies, 'Oh, them! I got rid of them!'
Okay, so it's not exactly a knee-slapper, but Petersen assured the crowd it was much funnier when Gorbachev told it, even through a translator. (When actor Tony Plana hit the stage, he urged Matt to change the beginning of the joke to "Two planets walk into a bar...")
In any case, the lesson, said Petersen, is dead serious: "we need the Earth, but it doesn't need us."
