"Extinct" Bird Eaten by Mistake: Not an April Fools Joke

A Worcester’s Buttonquail was caught on camera for the first time by a French documentary team who were filming native bird trappers at work in the Philippines. No one realized how rare the bird was until it was identified as a Worcester’s Buttonquail when a bird expert was shown the film. Unfortunately by that time...By that time, the trappers had long since taken it to a local poultry market where it was purchased for the equivalent of 20 cents by a local who presumably then ate the bird.
