Camping in a Garden is a Green Place to Stay on the Cheap

If you are desperate for a way to save, or make money, or just like camping, look no further. Camp in my Garden advertises private gardens that can be rented for as little as £9 a night.

Some of the "campsites" even offer breakfast, hot tubs and outdoor fridges. Think cheap summer festival or Olympic accommodation....

The quality of the gardens being offered varies from "bamping" (basic camping) to "glamping" (glamourous camping), so you can take your pick. The descriptions are enticing (maybe we could just move there permanently): "Big garden, summerhouse, bbq, power shower, children friendly, quiet road, babysitting available."

If you are going to Stonehenge, this is the place: with a "beautiful walled 2 acre garden", you won't want to ever leave it. Another, near Bath is "situated in a quiet rural location in the village of beautiful Chew Magna (recently voted the best village in the country!) .Camp in the Orchard or the Paddock and enjoy the birdsong in the morning!Walking distance to pub/restaurants." Hmmm, this could get addictive.

So far around 60 homeowners have signed up. For summer festivals and events, it is a cheap and pleasant way to stay near the events, but not have to pay high hotel costs.

The originator of the idea has a dream: "I hope that one day there will be thousands of private gardens being offered as temporary campsites across the world. Everyone will welcome and be welcomed into our gardens with open arms and hearts, sharing in one passion for the universal adventure that is life."
