VW Announces Pricing Details for 2013 Jetta Hybrid
4 Different Models From $25k to $31kSo far, Volkswagen has preferred diesel to gasoline-electric hybrids for its fuel-sipping models. But diesel has big downsides, even if modern models do emit fewer toxic particulate matter emissions. So it's interesting to see that, before going the full plug-in route, VW has decided to make a more traditional hybrid.
The 2013 Jetta hybrid, which should be released around the end of this year, will be sold from $24,995 plus a destination charges of $795, up to $26,990 for the SE model, $29,325 for the SEL, and $31,180 for the SEL Premium. Four different models is a pretty rare thing for a hybrid, so at least VW is giving some options to potential buyers.
Under the HoodVW writes: "Powered by an all-new, high-tech, 1.4-liter turbocharged and direct-injected TSI® engine mated to a zero-emissions electric motor, the Jetta Hybrid has a combined output of 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The innovative powertrain also features a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Jetta Hybrid can be driven in pure electric mode at speeds of up to 44 mph and for a distance of up to 1.2 miles, depending on operating conditions. With a manufacturer estimated combined fuel economy of 45 miles per gallon** and a 0-60 mph time of less than 9.0 seconds, this newest addition to the Jetta family demonstrates that being fuel-efficient doesn't have to come at the cost of performance or fun."
And here's the details on the 4 models. Unfortunately, the first one seems to exist mostly as a "price leader" and will be "available by order only", but I guess nothing stops you from ordering one if that's what you want.
