Mitsubishi i MiEV Electric Car to be Sold as Citroën and Peugeot in Europe


i MiEV Electric Car is Coming to Europe
The best deals are those that are mutually beneficials: According to Nikkei, Mitsubishi will supply more than 10,000 i MiEV electric cars to the French group PSA in 2011, doubling its previous production estimates. PSA will then use its existing network in Europe to sell the electric cars under the Citroën and Peugeot brands, helping it improve its green cred.

i MiEV Electric Car Production Plans
Mitsubishi plans to make 2,000 i-MiEV electric vehicles in 2009, and 4,000 units in 2010 before acceleration mass-production to a higher volume, which should now be about 20,000 units in 2011. "The resulting increased production will help to lower costs and boost competitiveness."

No word yet on pricing in Europe (or later US), but in Japan the i MiEV electric car should be around ¥3 million (US$27,530).

i MiEV Electric Car Specifications
The i MiEV is powered by a compact 47 kW electric motor (133 lb-ft of torque) and a 330V, 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack from Lithium Energy Japan (LEJ). LEJ is a joint venture of GS Yuasa Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC). Top speed of the i MiEV is 130 kph (81 mph), with a range of up to 160 km (100 miles) in the Japanese 10-15 cycle driving conditions.
