Maersk Goes Big & Really, Really Energy Efficient With Massive New Container Ships

Not much opining to add to this other than the say the energy efficient improvements and carbon emission reduction are certainly impressive: Shipper Maersk has announced that it will be buying ten of the world's largest, most efficient container ships ever built.

Dubbed the Triple-E, the massive ships will be the largest seagoing vessels every built at 400m long and a capacity of 18,000 shipping containers--16% larger than the current biggest ships. The environmental cred: The Triple-E will produce 20% lower CO2 per container shipped than the most efficient ships in operation today and 50% lower CO2 than the average container ship traveling between Asia and Europe. On a per-container basis it will also use 35% less fuel.
