Chariot Skates Let You Skate, er Cycle, er Ski...Well, Get Around Town Fast (Video)

Testing 1st samples from new moulds in Sydney & China from Chariot Skates on Vimeo.

If you ever wanted to skate anywhere and everywhere - or be one of the freaky Wheelers characters from Return to Oz for a Halloween costume - you'll have a chance with the Chariot Skates. Weighing about 5.5 pounds each, the super skates strap on to your feet and turn you in to part skater, part cyclist, part skier for rolling over rough terrain. Oh Gizmo writes, "For lack of a better description, they look like a wheelchair that's been split in two, and each half attaches to your lower legs and feet providing an inline-like skating experience that also feels a lot like skiing." That's actually a pretty good description.

The designers state: "Chariot Skates is a brand name for the revolutionary new skating product called Wheel-skates that crosses boundaries into skiing and cycling. Only the unique large wheel & pneumatic tyre of Wheel-skates allow you to:

* gain and maintain momentum with less effort, greater stability and more manoeuvrability
* skate over rougher terrain or ski down grassy slopes
* or commute like a bicycle free of seat & handle bars

The skates are still in the preproduction phase, so it'll be at least until June before you can get your hands on a pair to test out.

Here they are in action - they actually look like a lot of fun!

And if you're wondering how in the world to stop while on these things:
