Best Product Design Award: Eurobike Call for Entries

The International Forum Design (iFdesign) invites all members of the bicycle industry and interested students to submit entries to the international EUROBIKE AWARD 2008 by 25 July 2008. The Eurobike Awards aim to give consumers direction in a large market by pointing to touchstones of outstanding design.

EUROBIKE is gaining momentum as fuel prices rise. This year's brochure quotes reknowned futurologist Matthias Horx: "The first evolutionary winner of the climate change is -- the bicycle." Horx goes further to predict that the "boom of the bicycle in the general public will create a diverse service and lifestyle culture all revolving around the pedals."2008 sees the introduction of several new categories for

• Concepts
• Eurobike Green Award
• All-terrain bikes/Traveller bikes/ Trekking bikes and
• Downhill/Enduro/Freerider mountain bikes.

Students can take part in the new category "Concepts" free of charge. The new special category, EUROBIKE GREEN AWARD, may seem strange in an industry which is fundamentally green. However, the Eurobike Green Award will recognize a product which "has an outstanding ecological and sustainable value."

Full details on the competition can be found in the Eurobike Broschure (English & German). The awards ceremony will take place at EUROBIKE Friedrichshafen on 4 September 2008 at 5:30 pm. The Friedrichshafen Convention Center (Messe Friedrichshafen) will host all participants at the Eurobike convention 4 - 7 September. Winners of the awards will be on display in a special hall.
