Warren McLaren was once asked what drove his design. He answered “There’s always a better way and never give in.” Such grandiose proclamations would see him dripping in sweat, in a tin garage, at the height of an Australian summer, designing of all things - down mountaineering jackets for a European client. Slightly more sensible projects include writing and lecturing in ecodesign or leading teams to conserve penguin habitat. Backcountry skiing and snorkelling keep him sane. But Sydney school kids still stare at him as he rides his Moulton to work.
