Walmart
Walmart serves customers and members more than 200 million times per week at more than 8,400 retail units under 55 different banners in 15 countries. With fiscal year 2010 sales of $405 billion, the company employs more than 2.0 million associates worldwide. Sustainability makes Walmart a better company by reducing waste, lowering costs and driving innovation. Walmart uses the sun and wind to help power stores. Truck drivers' routes are shorter, which means less diesel fuel and greenhouse gases. And the company now views its waste streams as a commodity. Why does Walmart do it? For one thing, it makes a difference for the environment. But these efforts also save money - savings that are passed along to its customers around the world.
