TreeHugger Goes to Antarctica, Meets Penguins, Seals, and More (Slideshow)

Last November, TreeHugger experienced first-hand the magnificent scale of Antarctica, with its towering peaks of rock and snow and vast seas that can barely be done justice by photographs; the sense of remoteness and isolation is hard to duplicate looking at images back home. (Although, on the plus side, photographs mean you can view penguins without the accompanying strong smell of decaying fish, so some might call it even.)

This slideshow zeros in on the nature and wildlife of Antarctica -- and some of the people who want to preserve it.
